A Clearfield woman reportedly accused of causing brain injuries to an infant boy in her care had all charges bound over for court following a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland at yesterday's session of Centralized Court held at the Clearfield County Jail.
Laura Baldwin, 39, of Clearfield is reportedly charged with aggravated assault; endangering the welfare of children; recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.
The boy's mother reportedly testified that on May 5, 2011 at 10:35 a.m. before going to work she dropped off her 5-month-old son at Baldwin's River Road home where she operated her daycare center.
While at work, the mother reportedly received a call from Baldwin saying something was wrong with the baby and she needed to come over right away.
She said she reportedly went to Baldwin's home and discovered her son was unresponsive. She said his eyes had rolled back into his head and when she lifted his arm, it limply fell to his side.
She then reportedly told Baldwin they had to take him to the emergency room, which they did. Clearfield Hospital then transferred him by medical helicopter to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. She said he was in the hospital for three or four days before being released.
The boy reportedly attended the hearing with his mother and appeared to be healthy. When asked by The Progress after the hearing if the boy is suffering from any long-term injuries or disabilities from this incident, Brian Dixon of the Clearfield Borough Police Department said there were none so far, but something could still appear later.
